Committee/Networks
The Annual Conference Committee shall oversee all aspects of the Georgia Conference
on Recreation and Parks. It shall have specific responsibilities for planning, organizing
and conducting all programmatic aspects of the conference.
The GRPA State Athletic Committee is charged with the responsibility of the
organization, conduct, supervision, and evaluation of an athletic program on a statewide
basis for its members and affiliated groups.
The Awards Committee shall be responsible for administering all GRPA Awards
Programs in accordance with criteria and procedures adopted by the Board of Trustees.
The purpose of this committee is to insure that: the Manual of Policies and Procedures
is kept current and up-to-date, review and recommend changes as needed and serve
the Association, officers, board members, and general membership in any other related
document preparation.
The Editorial Board shall be responsible for editorial content and for ensuring
advertisement and publishing is accomplished so that each issue of the association's
professional journal, Recreation and Parks in Georgia is of highest quality. GRPA’s
Board of Trustees may contract advertisement and publishing activities to an outside
vendor, in which case the Editorial Board shall coordinate advertisement and publishing
with the vendor’s representatives. Editorial content shall represent the broad interests
of the Association’s membership, to include addressing health and wellness issues
each year.
Leisure service organizations are dynamic institutions; they must respond to the
changes which occur in society. Continuing professional education is essential to
professionals who are constantly striving to remain current with technological
developments, trends, and innovative practices. To maintain viable, effective, high
quality leisure services for residents of the state, it is imperative that professionals are
given opportunities to participate in continuing education programs.
The purpose of this foundation shall be to administer funds and programs that enhance
professional development in the field of recreation, parks, conservation and leisure
services in the State of Georgia.
The Membership Committee shall be responsible for the interpretation and
administration of the state association's goal and objectives pertaining to the
category of member. The committee shall solicit and encourage qualified professional
and lay persons participating in the recreation, park, and leisure services field to
apply for membership. The committee shall request that all agency membership
applicants appear before the Board of Trustees for final membership approval.
Assist in the Marketing and Visibility efforts of GRPA for the general promotion of
recreation and GRPA on the local and state levels
Prepare and/or support legislation favorable to the interests of parks, recreation,
conservation and the environment in Georgia. Review and support the legislative
program of the National Recreation and Park Association. Work to defeat legislative
issues detrimental to the park and recreation movement. Work closely with the state
and national senate and house members to advise them of the position of GRPA on
legislative issues. Educate the GRPA membership annually on the legislative package
and direct their support. Develop a budget each year for the GRPA Public Policy goals
and objectives. Maintain a legislative communications network to assist in the quick
dissemination of information on legislative issues and provide timely contacts with
elected officials. Publicize the Public Policy Committees goals and objectives to the
Board of Trustees and membership.
